Pledge Drive Benefit to Raise Funds for Student Radio

March 2, 2010

On Friday, March 5, KVRX, 91.7 FM will host a pledge drive benefit concert at Red 7 to celebrate the end of this year’s pledge drive.

Doors will open at 8 p.m. and bands will be playing until 2 a.m. There will be a $7 suggested donation at the door.

The benefit concert will feature Wild Harem, Wine & Revolution, Oh No Oh My, Reverse X-Rays, and Royal Forest (formerly Loxsly).

This year KVRX raised over $3,300 during our pledge drive, and while listeners are able to call in to pledge money during our broadcasting hours or donate online at our website, the purpose of the pledge drive benefit is to raise money while saying thank you to our listeners with a night of great live, local music.

KVRX Austin, 91.7 FM, the only student-run radio station in Austin, is a part of the University of Texas at Austin’s Texas Student Media division. The station is a non-profit and relies on donations from listeners and the community to stay on the air.

For more information about the pledge drive or the benefit, contact Nichole Bennett at nichole.lynn.bennett@gmail.com, and for more information about KVRX in general, contact Christina Brooks at pr@kvrx.org.

They Blinded Me With Science

February 19, 2010

Although The Awkward Off has hosted science-types, especially Science Under the Stars lecturers, I’m now diverting all science interviews to KVRX’s science radio show “They Blinded Me with Science.”

So, once again science life leaks into radio life, but Chelsea, Ben, Chase, and Evan are nice enough to let me sit in and babble about animal facts every now and again on their Monday 7PM-7:30PM show.

The shows are archived here if you aren’t able to catch them, but if you want to hear the action live, listen to 91.7 FM or online at www.kvrx.org every Monday 7PM-7:30PM (cst).

Have a science-tastic day!
